Shawano is a city in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,298 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Shawano County. The name is from the Menominee language, meaning "to the south".

Joseph McCarthy once worked here as a lawyer in the 1930s.
