Jefferson is a city in Jefferson County Wisconsin, and is its county seat. It is located at the confluence of the Rock and Crawfish Rivers. The population was 7,338 at the 2000 census. The city is located partially within the Town of Jefferson.

A strong German Community which celebrates that heritage in September annually. 2006 marks Gemuetlichkeit Days 36th celebration and the theme for 2006 was "Frieden auf Erden" or "Peace on Earth" and was held on September 15-17. We extend a warm welcome to everyone to join us for this great event. The three-day event is held on the second weekend after Labor Day. This is a family event with a German theme. Young and old dress in traditional German costume, and participate in contests for all ages throughout the weekend. The Madison Classic Spring and Fall Car Show at the Jefferson County Fair Park are the biggest events, drawing tens-of-thousands. These two events are usually held the last full weekend in April and the last full weekend in September, respectively. For the car buffs, these shows have everything — from the hard to find parts to refurbished cars. Sunday is the day owners bring in their beautiful show cars.
