Mount Pleasant is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, in the United States. It is the fifth largest city in South Carolina. As of 2006, the town had an estimated population of 59,113 . As defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, Mount Pleasant is included within the Charleston-North Charleston Urbanized Area and the Charleston-North Charleston Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the 3rd largest city in this metro behind Charleston and North Charleston. At the foot of the Cooper River Bridge lies Patriot's Point, a naval and maritime museum, home to the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, which is now a museum ship. Mount Pleasant is also home to I'On Community, a mixed-use New Urbanist development. A new eight lane bridge, completed in 2006, spans the Cooper River and links Mount Pleasant with Charleston.

On July 16, 2005, the eight-lane Arthur Ravenel Bridge opened for automotive traffic, replacing the two aging bridges. A week before the new bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the western hemisphere, officially opened, pedestrians were allowed to cross the bridge, and commerative coins were distributed. Also, a fireworks display was a part of the ceremonies leading up to the actual opening of the bridge. Several cars from the same time period as the Grace Memorial Bridge, including several restored Model A Fords, made a final crossing of the old bridges. The remaining portions of the old bridges were demolished. Local residents watched as the bridges were blown up in spectacular shows.

Mount Pleasant is located at 32.823189, -79.845477. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 128.3 km² (49.5 mi²). 108.5 km² (41.9 mi²) of it is land and 19.8 km² (7.7 mi²) of it (15.44%) is water.
