Lexington is a town in Lexington County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,793 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lexington County. A special 2005 census showed that the town has 14,329, an increase of 46% since the 2000 census making it the second-largest municipality in the Columbia MSA. Lexington is located at 33.980975, -81.230839. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.9 km² (5.8 mi²). 14.7 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (1.73%) is water.

In the town the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 39.6% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.3 males.
