Smithfield is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 20,613 at the 2000 census. Located in northern Rhode Island, the Town was founded in 1730 and is home to approximately 21,000 people, covering 26.7 square miles. The Town is experiencing continued growth. Fidelity Investments, the nation’s largest mutual fund company has located one of two New England regional centers in Smithfield.
The catholic parish of St. Phillip's also has its own school, and Bryant University, a top four year business school formerly known as Bryant College, is also located in Smithfield. Masters Regional Academy, a non-denominational regional Christian school for students in grades 7-12 is located in Smithfield.
