The Town of Malta is in the southeast part of the county and is mostly south of Saratoga Springs, New York.

The town was created in 1802 from part of the Town of Stillwater.

Exit 12 ofInterstate 87, The Northway, and US Route 9 pass up the west side of the town.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 81.2 km² (31.4 mi²). 72.6 km² (28.0 mi²) of it is land and 8.7 km² (3.4 mi²) of it (10.71%) is water.
