Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, adjacent to the Arizona state line and 77 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Recent estimates place its population at 18,012. The city is located in the Virgin River valley, and has boomed as a casino and resort getaway and retirement community.

The Virgin River is a 200 mile (322 km) long tributary of the Colorado River in the southwestern United States. It begins in Southwestern Utah, just south of Zion National Park near Springdale, and is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Virgin, that flows through Mount Carmel Junction on the east side of Zion National Park and Parunaweap Canyon, with the North Fork Virgin River, that flows from Navajo Lake through Zion National Park.
