The City of Claremont is located in the foothills of North Western North Carolina. This Metropolitan area is the 4th largest metro area in the state. The economics of the city are sound, with high quality furniture industries, two fiber optical and coaxial cable manufacturing plants located within the city limits.

The City of Claremont is located off exit 135 interstate 40 with U.S. 70 running through the middle of the city. Norfolk-Southern Railroad also runs the lenght of the city from east to west.

Claremont was named for Clare Sigmon, settler.

Former and merged community names were Charlottes Crossing and Setzer's Depot.
