Mankato is a city in Blue Earth County¹, Minnesota with a population of 32,427 as of the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 39.9 km² (15.4 mi²). 39.4 km² (15.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (1.23%) is water. The Minnesota, Blue Earth and Le Sueur Rivers all flow through or near the city.
