Menominee is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 9,131. It is the county seat of Menominee County. Menominee Township is located to the north of the city and is politically independent.

Menominee gets its name from a regional Native American tribe known as the Menominee, which roughly translates into "Wild Rice". Menominee gained prominence as a lumber town. In its heyday Menominee produced more lumber than any other city in America. During this time and shortly after, Menominee boasted an opera house, which is being restored . Today, Menominee relies on manufacturing (paper products, lawn furniture, auto supplies, tourism, etc.) for its economic well-being.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.2 km² (5.5 mi²). 13.4 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it (5.65%) is water.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males.

A natural fact is the location of a lazy marina along the shores of Green Bay and in the heart of Downtown; home to many sailboats, motor boats, kayaks and canoes in warmer months. There is also a public park with sandy beaches and well-kept, landscaped greens to frolic. Tenth Avenue, the welcome mat to Downtown, was recently renovated to include single lanes for an unhurried drive, ample parallel parking spaces, lamp posts whose style is keeping with the historical buildings they illuminate, new sidewalks and mediums to make walking a tempting mode of transportation. Rounding out these changes are newly planted trees and green space to compliment the natural beauty in Downtown.
