Clawson is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a suburb of Detroit and is part of the Metro Detroit area. As of the 2000 census, the total population was 12,732.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²). Of that, 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²) is land and none of it is covered by water.

At just over two square miles in area Clawson is one of the smallest communities in Southeastern Michigan and a first thought may be that not much could be happening in such a small place. A lot would be missed, though, by making that assumption. Exploring Clawson by foot is an easy and comfortable stroll or better yet following the well directed bike path with a friend will take you through quiet neighborhoods and to many points of interest. A large, wonderfully appointed city park may be the highlight of your bike ride. There are plenty of picnic spots with tables and barbeque grills. An exercise path winds through the park by tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, shuffle board lanes and swinging chairs built for two (or three). Nearby is the football field and track along with baseball and soccer fields.
