Brighton is a city in Livingston County, the fastest growing county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 6,701, although the greater Brighton area includes a population approximately 80,000, including the city and four surrounding townships. Brighton is one of two cities in Livingston County and incorporates land that had formerly been parts of Brighton Township, Green Oak Township, and Genoa Township. Although the municipal boundaries do not include any of Hamburg Township, it is considered to be part of the greater Brighton area. The city of Brighton's wastewater treatment plant facility is located in Hamburg Township and services the city of Brighton and parts of Genoa, Brighton, and Hamburg townships. The city's two water plants also services both the city and parts of Genoa, Brighton and Hamburg townships.

Mt. Brighton is a ski resort in Brighton, Michigan. Mt Brighton was opened in 1960. No hills large enough for commercial skiing exist naturally in Brighton, MI. Mt. Brighton's slopes are man-made and reach a maximum height of 250 vertical feet. Mt. Brighton has seven chair lifts and ten tow-rope surface lifts. Silver is the longest of the 26 runs, reaching 1350 feet. A terrain park and halfpipe are available to freestyle skiers and snowboarders. Almost all of the snow on Mt. Brighton is created artificially using water stored in an on-site reservoir and industry standard snow making equipment.

Groups and Clubs:
Ski School offers ski and snowboard lessons to groups and individuals. Ski Club is a popular activity for metro Detroit grade school students who want to learn to ski or snowboard. NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race) racing is available to the public. NASTAR is a race system that was started in 1968 that, through the development of a handicap system, allows racers of all ages and abilities a means to compare their race results to other competitors at over 120 resorts across the United States regardless of when and where they race. National Ski Patrol certified staff and volunteers provide education and training in leadership, outdoor emergency care, safety and transportation services.

The Jackal Golf Course:
The Jackal is an 18 hole golf course that was added to Mt. Brighton in 2001. Bruce Matthews designed the par 71 course with four sets of tees ranging in yardage from 6,655 to 4,826.

Recreation services for the city is provided through a separate governmental entity called the Southeastern Livingston County Recreation Authority, which also services the townships of Brighton, Genoa and Green Oak, as well as the Brighton Area Schools.
