Acme is an unincorporated community in the township, situated at the junction of US 31 and M-72 on the East Arm of the Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. It is about 10 miles east of Traverse City at 44°46'19"N, 85°30'05"W. The ZIP code is 49610 and the FIPS place code is 00180.
Bates is an unincorporated community in the township situated on M-72 three miles east of Acme at 44°46'22"N, 85°26'39"W. The FIPS place code is 05840 and it is 722 feet above sea level.
