Ellsworth is a city located in Hancock County, Maine, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,456. Ellsworth is located on the Union River. Today it's the increasingly prosperous shopping center for Hancock County and the gateway for many tourists visiting nearby Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island and the Bar Harbor (town), Maine region. However, Ellsworth itself has many historic buildings, beautiful spots and points of interest. From May until September Ellsworth is busy with lots of visitors from all over the United States and Canada.

Woodlawn Museum - the famous Black House, built in 1824. Original furniture, carriage house, outbuildings, public park.

Stanwood Homestead Museum and Birdsacre Sanctuary - on High Street, on the way to Bar Harbor. Look for the sign after you drive past all the shopping centers.

Ellsworth Waterfront - have a picnic at the Union River marina and watch for bald eagles and diving osprey. Located on Water Street, just off Main Street.

Acadia National Park - the first National Park east of the Mississippi. Busy during tourist season but one of the most beautiful parts of the Maine coast. Approximately 30 minutes south of Ellsworth via Route 3.

Mount Desert Island is off the Down East coast of Maine, a state of the United States of America. Always referred to by the locals in Hancock County simply as "The Island."
