The Town of West Springfield is a city in Hampden County, Massachusetts, United States. It is considered a suburb of Springfield, Massachusetts. The population was 27,899 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 45.4 km² (17.5 mi²). 43.4 km² (16.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it (4.50%) is water. It is on the west side of the Connecticut River, across from Springfield, and on the north side of the Westfield River, above Agawam.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
