The Town of Greenfield, is a city in Franklin County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 18,168 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Franklin County 6. Greenfield is home to Greenfield Community College, the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the Franklin County Fair.
Greenfield is located on the Deerfield River where Route 2 intersects I-91, the north-south highway through New England. Route 2 is a primary connector from Boston to New York State making this a most attractive central point in Western Massachusetts. I-91 gives Greenfield ready access to New York City and Canada, and Route 2 offers a byway into Boston to the east and Albany, New York to the west. Greenfield is also well served by rail via the Springfield Terminal Railway and the Central Vermont Railway. It is in the center of a circle of small cities that include Brattleboro in Vermont, Pittsfield, Springfield, Worcester, Leominster and Fitchburg in Massachusetts, and Keene in New Hampshire.

Greenfield Energy Park - Truly a park - a place to relax, stroll along tree-lined paths, see energy demonstrations, and play on the kid's train. The park is a place to enjoy and learn about energy resourses, natural environment, transportation alternatives, conservation practices and heritage preservation.
Covered Bridge - on Eunice Williams Drive, is a 95-foot structure spanning the Green River in an area called the "Pumping Station." It was built in 1972 to replace a 100-year old covered bridge that was burned by vandals. The area is a popular spot for swimming and fishing.
Historical Society of Greenfield,
is housed in a Victorian Mansion on the corner of Church and Union Streets. There are 15 display closets, some of them lighted, plus five rooms of exhibits and a research library. Among the many exhibits tracing Greenfield's history are a large collection of industrial artifacts, period tools and objects belonging to author Mary P. Wells Smith, including her portrait, manuscripts and six of the original illustrations for her children's books, "Jolly Good Times" and "Young Puritans." Open Saturday mornings through the summer.
