Shelbyville is a city in Shelby County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded on land donated by William Shannon in 1792 and named for Kentucky's first governor, Issac Shelby. The population was 10,085 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Shelby County. Shelbyville is located at 38.212160, -85.225847.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.8 km² (7.6 mi²). 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.92%) is water. Shelbyville is located on US Route 60 and is north of Interstate 64.
