Shawnee is a rapidly growing community located in northwest Johnson County, Kansas and is a western suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. The population was 47,996 at the 2000 census. Shawnee is located at 39.012767, -94.765818. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 110.2 km² (42.5 mi²). 108.1 km² (41.7 mi²) of it is land and 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it (1.88%) is water.
