McPherson is a city located in the center of the state of Kansas in McPherson County, Kansas. The population was 13,770 at the 2000 census. McPherson is located at 38.371923, -97.662177. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.1 km² (6.2 mi²). 15.9 km² (6.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.97%) is water. The community is located on US Route 56, west of Interstate 135.
