Hutchinson is the largest city and county seat of Reno County, Kansas, 219 miles (352 km) west of Kansas City, Missouri, on the Arkansas River. In 1900, 9,379 people lived in Hutchinson; in 1910, 16,364; in 1920, 23,398; and in 1940, 30,013. The population was 40,787 at the 2000 census.
