Hesston is a city in Harvey County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,509 at the 2000 census. Hesston is located at 38.139097, -97.429550. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²), all land. Many of the early settlers were Mennonite farmers. In 1909, the Mennonite Church founded Hesston College in the town. In 1981, the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains was founded at the college; the 13 acre (52,609 m²) arboretum showcases more than 600 varieties of native vegetation.

The Dyck Arboretum of the Plains is a 13 acre (53,000 m²) botanical garden at Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas, USA. It was begun October 11, 1981, to feature native Kansas plants and trees, and now contains more than 600 varieties of native and adaptable trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses.

The Arboretum contains plant varieties from all the major grassland biomes of central North America, including wildflowers of the Great Plains, a buffalo grass meadow, beds of tallgrass, shortgrass and mixed grass prairie plants.
