Elberton is the largest city in Elbert County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,743 at the 2000 census. However, the City of Elberton estimates its current population at 6,000. Located in Northeast Georgia, Elberton sits near the center of Elbert County, 33 miles east of Athens and 110 miles east of Atlanta. The industrial center of Northeast Georgia, Elberton is a prosperous, growing community boasting an economy as solid as they come - the Elberton area's granite monument production accounts for one-third of total production nationwide. Elberton is also known for attractions including granite monuments, colonial homes, beautiful lakes and, of course, the 20,000-seat Granite Bowl, home of the Elbert County Blue Devils.
