Tavares is a city in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,700 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2005 estimates, the city had a population of 11,621. The word Tavares, is Spanish for 'Hub'. It is the county seat of Lake County.
