Silver Springs is in Marion County, Florida, just to the east of the city of Ocala. Silver Springs is the site of one of the largest artesian spring formations in the world, producing nearly 550 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily. Silver Springs forms the headwaters of the Silver River, which empties into the Ocklawaha River, a part of the St. Johns River system.

Silver Springs is located about 6 miles northeast of downtown Ocala. From the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and State Road (SR) 40 in Ocala, drive east on SR 40 for 6.1 miles to the entrance to the Silver Springs theme park. To access by water, boats can be launched at the boat ramp on SR 40 at the west end of the bridge over the Ocklawaha River, then go west on the Silver River to the springs.

Silver Springs is a 1st magnitude spring that forms the headwaters of the Silver River. The Silver River and its springs are in the Silver River State Park. Some land around the head of the springs is leased by the state to the Silver Springs Natures Theme Park. The park is possibly most famous for its glass-bottom boat rides from which the numerous springs and the associated aquatic life may be viewed. Other attractions include a jungle cruise boat that tours the Silver River, museum, gift shop, water park, and food service facilities. Canoeing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing are popular along the river.
