Steamboat Springs, known as Ski Town USA, is a city in Routt County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,815 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Routt County. The town is an internationally known winter resort destination, highlighted by the Steamboat Ski Resort, which is on Mount Werner in the Park Range just east of the town. It also contains the much smaller Howelsen Ski Area. It is located in the upper valley of the Yampa River, along U.S. Highway 40 just west of the Continental Divide at Rabbit Ears Pass.

The Steamboat Ski Resort is a ski area operated by the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It is located in Routt National Forest on Mount Werner, a mountain in the Park Range.
The ski area has 164 named trails spread over 2965 acres. Thirteen percent are classified as beginner level, fifty six percent as intermediate, and thirty one percent as advanced. It also contains the longest snowboard/skiing superpipe in North America.
The Howelsen ski area is a small ski area located on Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It has one chair lift and one rope tow lift. It has a bobsled track and a series of ski jumps, the largest being a 90 meter jump. The local youth ski team, the Steamboat Winter Sports Club, practices at the area, along with various ski jumpers in training, including U.S. Ski Team Jumpers. It is the oldest continuously operating ski area in Colorado.
