Santee is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The city is named after Milton Santee, second husband of Jennie Blodgett, whose first husband was George A. Cowles, a ranching pioneer in the San Diego area. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Santee had a population of 52,975.

Prior to its in incorporation, in December 1980, the adjacent city of El Cajon had been annexing many of the choice areas of unincorporated Santee. The community incorporated to protect its tax base from further encroachment by El Cajon.

The area is home to the Grossmont Community College District, which boasts two award-winning community colleges, Grossmont and Cuyamaca. In addition, San Diego State University, University of California at San Diego and University of San Diego are close by.

A brand new shopping and dining center, named "Trolley Square at Santee Town Center", opened in 2001 on the site of the San Diego Trolley stop. A new YMCA also opened nearby.
