San Bernardino is the county seat of San Bernardino County, California, United States. As of 2005 the California Department of Finance estimates the population at 199,803. Currently, freeway entry signs state the population is 201,823. Some areas, particularly north of downtown, have a density beyond design capacity, including garage conversions. Although rapid residential development is transforming the city into a bedroom community, manufacturing remains a major industry in San Bernardino and the surrounding cities. It is an anchor city of the Inland Empire. San Bernardino has three major events, the annual Route 66 Rendezvous a multi-day automobile event held in downtown San Bernardino each September, the National Orange Show , held each April/May, and the Western Regional Little League Championships each August.

San Bernardino Valley College is a public community college. California State University, San Bernardino is a part of the California State University System. Other nearby institutions include the University of California, Riverside, the private University of Redlands, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Performing Arts:
The California Theater holds cultural events, including touring Broadway shows and the San Bernardino Symphony. the Hyundai Pavilion in adjacent Devore, the National Orange Show, and Coussoulis Arena at Cal State San Bernardino host popular music.

Museums:
The Heritage House at 8th and D holds the collection of the San Bernardino Historic and Pioneer Society. The San Bernardino County Museum, in Redlands, has exhibits relating to the history of the City of San Bernardino, including a diorama of the Mormon Fort.
