Mount Shasta is a city located in Siskiyou County, California located at around 3,600 ft or (1,097 m). As of the 2000 Census the city had a total population of 3,621. The town is only about 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Mount Shasta, a prominent northern California landmark. Mt. Shasta is located in Siskiyou County, northern California, 60 miles north of Redding, and 60 miles south of the Oregon border, along Interstate 5. Pine-covered mountains surround our valley, with the snowy volcanic peak of Mt. Shasta towering 14,162 feet high above it. The elevation of the city of Mt. Shasta is 3500 feet and sloping upwards. The city limits are contained in an area of 3.4 square miles. The sphere of influence extends about 41 square miles and is surrounded by the Shasta Trinity National Forest.

Sisson Museum, On the grounds of the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery. Open daily except: Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. Hours: Summer: 10am to 4pm Winter: 1pm to 4pm. The museum is closed for renovation during January, February and March. Tour the museum's permanent exhibit about the history of climbing Mt. Shasta, including mountaineering photographs dating back to the middle of the 19th Century and enjoy revolving exhibits detailing local history. Each summer the museum hosts a popular, month-long quilt show. The gift shop contains books, posters, jewelry, and much more.
