June Lake is centrally located on the easternslope of the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. Situated on the 158 Loop, off of Hwy. 395.

Bodie Ghost Town offers exhibits of memorabilia from this rowdy gold mining boomtown, which boasted a population of over 10,000 people in the 1880's, and mines yielding over $35 million in gold. It is the largest unrestored ghost town in the western U.S. Explore the weathered buildings, a museum and a visitor center on the streets of this authentic ghost town through a self-guided walking tour. Bodie State Historic Park is approximately 35 miles north of June Lake off Hwy.395.

Devil's Postpile National Monument is located in Red's Meadow. The columns of basalt were formed approx. 900,000 years ago when a lava flow slowed and began to cool and crack. Temperatures deep within the lava bed were uniform enough to produce six-sided columnar joints, 40 to 60 feet high resembling a giant pipe organ, polished to a shine by later glacial action.

Hot Creek State Fish Hatchery raises about 3 million trout each year for planting in the Sierra Nevada lakes and streams, and over 20 million eggs for other fish hatcheries throughout the state. Get the details on breeding trout year round. Open daily to the public. Located near the Mammoth airport off Hwy. 395, an approximate 30-minute drive south from June Lake.

Rainbow Falls is located downstream from the Devil's Postpile. The San Joaquin River flows over an abrupt 101-foot drop, sending rainbows of color into the mist. Truly a sight that is breathtaking and worth the easy 2-mile walk. When the sun is in the right position and there are no clouds in the way a beautiful rainbow will appear before you eyes. This is a great hike for someone who doesn't want to work too hard.

Mono Lake, an ancient, inland salty sea filled with history, beauty and mystery, is approximately 10 miles north of June Lake. It's salt waters sustain a unique biosphere where tiny brine shrimp feed millions of migrating birds each year. Mono Lake has two volcanic islands; strange formations called Tufas, and unusual shorelines. Enjoy the spectacular tufa towers through a self-guided walking tour on the shoreline at the Seal Beach side of the lake. These unusual towers are piled-up mineral deposits formed beneath the water's surface when mineral-rich spring water mixes with salt lake water. The Forest Service offers guided walks, kayak and canoe tours, a museum and a visitor center to stimulate interest and provide information.
