Claremont is an affluent city in eastern Los Angeles County, California, USA, about 30 miles (45 km) east of downtown Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Claremont is known for its seven world-renowned academic institutions, its tree-lined streets, historic buildings, and New England town feel. Claremont is a small, upper middle to upper class, well educated community largely populated by professionals and their families. Due to the number of professors from the Claremont Colleges who live in Claremont, the number of post-graduate degrees per capita is unusually high. As such, it is known as "The City of Trees and PhD's."

Claremont is primarily residential, with commercial activity centered around The Village (as it is known to most residents), a popular collection of street-front small stores, offices, and restaurants westerly adjacent to The Claremont Colleges.

Large trees and shade-covered streets, older residential areas, and The Claremont Colleges are located south of the Foothill Freeway and Baseline Road. The Claremont Colleges are nationally and internationally renowned for academic excellence. Several of the Colleges are consistently rated among the best in the nation. This has helped draw students from across the country and around the world.
