Local Attractions:
Desert Caballeros Western Museum - Celebrating its 27th year, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the history and art of Arizona and the west. It takes pride in being one of the best small museums in Arizona. The permanent collection includes Native American an 19th-century decorative arts, as well as late 19th - and 20th - century western American paintings and sculptures. The museum's public programming includes exhibitions, lectures, workshops, art classes and tours.
Nature Conservancy - Hassayampa River Preserve A special piece of Arizona's natural environment is being protected and restored at the Hassayampa River Preserve near Wickenburg. For most of its 100-mile course through the desert, the Hassayampa River flows only underground. But within the preserve its crystal clear waters emerge, flowing above ground throughout the year. The lush streamside habitat of the Hassayampa is home to some of the desert's most spectacular wildlife. Yet many of them have become dangerously imperiled as riparian areas have disappeared from the Arizona landscape. Spring-fed Palm Lake is a unique four-acre pond and marsh habitat. The marshy pond habitat attracts an impressive array of water birds such as the great blue heron, white-faced ibis, and pied-billed grebe. The large willows around the lake provide important nesting habitat for the endangered southwestern willow flycatcher.
Robson's Arizona Mining World is a step back in time at the Nella-Meda gold mining camp. The mine sits in a notch in the Sonoran Desert's saguaro covered hills. It's home to thousands of pieces of antique equipment and 26 artifact-filled buildings; mineral museum, assay office, mercantile, barber shop, blacksmith, lodge, trading post, print shop and more! Displays show how the equipment was used; like the old stamp mill, steam generating plant and a working '40s mill. Further exploration on trails lead to an ancient Indian campsite, an old stage stop, and miles of untouched desert wilderness! This is a land of stunning vistas, star-filled skies, and is home to many species of animals and birds.
Vulture Mine - This historic mine offers you a peek of yesteryear through a self-guided tour of the remaining buildings and mine site. Guided tours may be scheduled, as well as camping and trailer park reservations. From the intersection of US 60/93 in Wickenburg, travel west on Highway 60/Wickenburg Way for 2.5 miles to vulture Mine Road, then travel south 12 miles to the mine entrance. Open during the winter months seven days a week, 8 am to 4 PM.
