Jonesboro is a city in Craighead County, Arkansas, United States. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 59,358. Jonesboro is the county seat, the largest city in northeast Arkansas, and the fifth most populous city in the state. It is the principal city of and is included in the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jonesboro is the home to Arkansas State University and is a regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education, and trade.

Jonesboro has over seventy-five churches, earning it the nickname "The City of Churches". It is also home to the Islamic Center of Jonesboro, which was built with funds provided by the government of Saudi Arabia. At the time of construction, the Islamic Center was one of the largest mosques in the southern United States.

Jonesboro was named after State Senator William A. Jones in recognition of his support in the legislature for the formation of Craighead County.

Jonesboro is a home of Arkansas State University. Arkansas State University offers one of the mid-South's finest museums, a fine arts center and an indoor sports/entertainment complex. Crowley's Ridge Nature Center will open at the southern edge of Jonesboro in the spring of 2004 providing an interesting tour of the natural wonders of the region, plus serve as a stop along Crowley's Ridge National Scenic Byway.
