Vance is a town in Bibb County, Alabama and Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. The current mayor of Vance is Keith Mahaffey.

The town of Vance was first setting in 1830 by David M. Lindley, the town was then called Trion. Trion was a trading post on the Old Huntsville Road.

In 1872 Trion was renamed to Smallwood in honour of sawmill owner Charles Smallwood.

In 1879 Smallwood was renamed to its current name Vance in honour of Dr. William Vance of North Carolina.
