Central Saanich is a district municipality in Greater Victoria and a member municipality of the Capital Regional District. It is located on the Saanich Peninsula. The district began as a farming community, and many hobby farms, along with a handful of small working farms and vineyards, still exist. In recent decades, the area has seen increasing residential, commercial, and industrial development, especially around the neighborhoods of Brentwood Bay and Saanichton, which are occasionally referred to as separate communities.

Brentwood Bay, British Columbia is a small neighborhood, often characterized as a "village", in the municipality of Central Saanich, on the Saanich Peninsula just north of the City of Victoria and south of Sidney on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Situated on the Saanich Inlet, it includes the world-famous Butchart Gardens as its main attraction.

The Butchart Gardens are a botanical tourist attraction located in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, a small village on the Saanich Peninsula that is part of Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island. They were originally created under the supervision of Jennie Butchart.

By 2004, staff were executing a series of replantings yearly throughout the gardens. A full-time staff of fifty gardeners uses over one million bedding plants in some seven hundred different varieties to ensure uninterrupted blooming from March through October.

In 1982 the Canadian pavilion opened at Epcot Centre in Orlando Florida. Part of the attraction features a large garden based on the Butchart Gardens.
