Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, is the city immediately east of Vancouver. It is the third-largest city in BC by population, surpassed only by Surrey and Vancouver itself.

It was incorporated in 1892 and achieved City status in 1992, one hundred years after incorporation. It is the current seat of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

The mountain, water and city views from high atop Burnaby Mountain make this a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The Kamui Mintara comprises more than a dozen carved poles created by Japanese sculptors Nuburi Toko and his son, Shusei.

Deer Lake Park offers a peaceful natural environment in the heart of the city. The trails meander around the lake and through unique meadows and woodlands. In the summer, you can rent a boat, launch your own canoe, sailboat or rowboat on Deer Lake, or enjoy sunbathing on the beach at the lake's east end. Opportunities also abound for bird-watching and wildlife-viewing in the lake, forest, meadow and marsh areas.
